Miami was looking for its second win of the season in the Citrus series, but Chris Archer and the Ray's bullpen pitched a shut out in a 2-0 win. The Marlins' offense was limited to only two hits Saturday afternoon.
After a five inning pitching duel between Chris Archer and Cosart, the first to falter was Cosart. In the sixth, Cosart gave up a two out triple to Asdrubal Cabrera. Evan Longoria then hit a double off Cosart and Cabrera scored. Cosart was taken out after the fifth. Mike Dunn came in for the start of the sixth and immediately gave up a solo home run to Tim Beckaham.
Cosart had a productive first game despite the loss, giving up only three hits and one run along with three walks.
The only hit given up by Archer was double by Christian Yelich. Archer had only one walk with five strikeouts in his seven innings pitched. Miami had their second hit of the game in the eighth inning when Marcell Ozuna hit a single.
After coming in during the sixth inning as a pinch hitter, Ichiro Suzuki was walked. He attempted to steal but was easily picked off by Bobby Wilson.
Mike Dunn pitched for 1.1 innings giving up a homerun with two strikes. Sam Dyson later took the mound and struck out two.
