Arizona was able to land Shelby Miller on Tuesday, but reportedly was discussing a deal to acquire Jose Fernandez before it did so, according to Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald.
Hearing that #Marlins had deal working with D-Backs: Jose Fernandez for Corbin, Swanson and 3 others -- until Zona landed Shelby Miller.

If the Marlins were able to complete this deal, it might have been the overpayment they were hoping to receive in exchange for Fernandez. Patrick Corbin has had success and is a front of the rotation arm, and the Marlins could have asked about Ender Inciarte, who went to Atlanta in the Miller deal.
Miami might have been inclined to move Marcell Ozuna if Inciarte was acquired.
The Marlins' asking price for Fernandez is notably high and that is not expected to change. The package that Arizona sent to the Braves to acquire Miller would not have been enough to get them Fernandez, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.
Dbacks people saying the package would not have come close to getting them Fernandez. Wow.

Fernandez is still a Marlin for now. But that could change relatively soon.
