Miami Marlins morning news: Justin Bour finishes fifth in NL Rookie of Year voting

The Marlins first basemen finished fifth in the NL Rookie of the Year race, among seven rookies that received at least one vote.

After a surprisingly solid rookie season in 2015, Justin Bour finished fifth among seven players to receive votes for the National League Rookie of the Year award. Kris Bryant won the award after receiving all 30 first-round votes. Justin received one second place vote and one third place vote.

With JT Realmuto scheduled to be behind the plate as the starter in 2016, the Marlins are open to re-signing Jeff Mathis as his backup. Mathis isn't very skilled at the plate, but the Marlins value his defensive abilities.

The Marlins have begun discussing a projected innings schedule for Jose Fernandez with the doctor who performed his Tommy John surgery.
