Miami Marlins will re-sign Ichiro Suzuki

The 41-year old outfielder will join Miami in 2016.

Ichiro Suzuki will have the opportunity to reach 3,000 career hits as a member of the Miami Marlins. According to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, Suzuki will be re-signed and under contract for 2016.

An announcement is expected to come later today. The Marlins have their end of the season press conference at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Over 153 games this season, Suzuki posted a .229/.282/.279 batting line to complement one home run and 21 RBIs.

Suzuki, 41, was signed by the Marlins to serve as the club's fourth outfielder. However, as a result of injuries to Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton and the demotion of Marcell Ozuna, Suzuki received a notable amount of starting time.

Assuming Stanton is healthy, Suzuki will most likely be used as a left-handed pinch hitter off the bench. He has experience playing all three outfield spots and the Marlins reportedly had interest in having him on the roster next season since the middle of the summer.
