Miami will have another chance to win the three game series with the New York Mets with a victory on Wednesday night. Tom Koehler will oppose Jacob deGrom on the mound.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Mets | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.30 | 3.90 | 3.79 | Koehler | deGrom | 2.94 | 3.07 | 4.01 |
The Marlins' bullpen was taxed after a short start from Brad Penny on Tuesday, making it essential for Koehler to turn in an extended outing. In his last start against the Braves, Koehler pitched six innings while allowing two runs and striking out six.
He has pitched well against New York in his career, and in his last outing against the Mets, tossed six and a third innings while allowing three runs.
deGrom pitched seven innings and allowed just an unearned run while striking out five his last time out against the Phillies. He pitched seven innings and allowed one run in his last start against the Marlins.
Lineups
Christian Yelich had a nice offensive night on Tuesday, as the Marlins will use the same lineup against deGrom. Adeiny Hechavarria remains in the eight hole, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia behind the plate.
Offense hasn't been a concern for the Marlins in the first two games of the series, however deGrom has pitched well against Miami in his brief Major League career.
Notes
-Can Miami take the series? The Marlins are in a position to win a series coming off of a losing road trip where they had several opportunities to do so.
-Will Koehler turn in a quality start? Miami needs a quality start to keep the bullpen quiet after a night of extended work.
Bold Prediction: Mets def. Marlins 2-0
