Jarred Cosart struggled early and the Miami Marlins fell to the Washington Nationals in game one of a day/night double header on Friday afternoon.
Washington got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first, as an Anthony Rendon home run made it a 1-0 contest. Adam LaRoche singled with two outs, and following an Ian Desmond double, scored on a passed ball to push the Nationals' lead to two.
An Asdrubral Cabrera RBI single in the fifth made it a three run contest and seemingly ended Cosart's afternoon. In five innings, he allowed three runs while walking eight and striking out three.
Sam Dyson allowed another run in the bottom of the sixth, which gave all the support Doug Fister would need. He tossed a complete game shuout and struck out nine.
A Donovan Solano two out triple in the ninth was the Marlins' best opportunity to score on the day, but Fister worked around it to end the game.
Dan Jennings pitched well in relief for the Marlins.
