Redmond told reporters it was unlikely Stanton would play again this year last night before making it official on Wednesday afternoon. The news comes the day after Stanton posted a picture of himself on Instagram in a hospital bed and on the way to recovery.
Stanton posted a .288/.395/.555 batting line to complement 37 home runs and 105 RBIs in 145 games this season. He had made it a goal to play in every game before the start of Spring Training.
Before going down, Stanton was in the conversation for the National League MVP award. Heading into the offseason with a goal of getting healthy, Stanton carried a young offense over the course of the year.
Miami has used Reed Johnson and Ed Lucas in right field in Stanton's absence.
