Miami Marlins Minor League Report: Southern League Championship

The Jacksonville Suns finish off a sweep of the Chattanooga Lookouts to bring home the 2014 Southern League Championship.

The Jacksonville Suns finished off a three game sweep of the Chattanooga Lookouts to bring home the Southern League Championship. The Suns started fast when Viosergy Rosa followed an Austin Nola walk, and J.T. Realmuto single with a three run homerun. In the bottom of the 5th inning the Suns would grab another run on an Austin Barnes RBI double, and then Barnes would come home on a Viosergy Rosa double to give the Suns a 5-0 lead. Austin Nola would follow with an RBI double in the 6th inning to extend the lead to 6-0.

Justin Nicolino got the start on the mound, turning in another solid outing. Nicolino went 6 and 2/3 innings scattering seven hits, allowing no runs and striking out three. Reid Redman would follow with one and 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three. Matt Ramsey would pitch the 9th inning allowing one run to nail down the championship for Jacksonville. The celebration of a championship on the middle of the diamond ends the season for all Miami Marlins minor league affiliates.
