On Tuesday, the Miami Marlins did what many Marlins fans had clamored for a while, they designated Jacob Turner for  assignment. On the surface, the move looks fine, as Turner has a 5.98 ERA on the season.

News broke yesterday that the Chicago Cubs had claimed pitcher Jacob Turner off the waiver wire after he had been designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins the day before.  The Marlins must now work out a trade with the Cubs or lose Turner without compensation by placing him on irrevocable waivers.

Marlins lefty Brian Flynn was touched for five runs on eight hits in four-plus innings. The Marlins turned to Flynn to make the start in place of Jarred Cosart, who was scratched due to a tight left oblique muscle. A starter all season at Triple-A New Orleans, Flynn made one relief appearance with Miami this year on June 27 against the A's.
