Coming off of a 7-3 loss to the Pirates on Wednesday night, the Miami Marlins will look to take the series in game three on Thursday. Brian Flynn will oppose Edinson Volquez on the mound.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Pirates | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.45 | 2.14 | 6.00 | Flynn | Volquez | 3.91 | 4.52 | 4.66 |
With Jarred Cosart scratched as a result of a left oblique injury, the Marlins will turn to Brian Flynn to make the spot start. Flynn's lone appearance with the Marlins this season came against Oakland in June, when he pitched three innings and allowed two runs while striking out three.
Edinson Volquez pitched five and two third innings against the Diamondbacks in his last start, during which he allowed four runs (three earned) while walking two and striking out five.
Lineups
Jordany Valdespin gets the start at second, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia catching Flynn. Donovan Solano gives Casey McGehee a day off at third and is batting seventh.
Josh Harrison leads off for the Pirates, with Jayson Nix starting at third base.
Notes
-Can Flynn turn in a quality start? The Marlins would like a decent outing from the lefty, saving the bullpen innings early in the game.
-Will the road success continue? After starting the season strong at home, the Marlins have turned things around on the road.
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Pirates 2-0
