High Class-A: Jupiter Hammerheads L 2-6 @ Bradenton Marauders
Blake Barber, DH: 2-for-4, SB (6)
Avery Romero, 2B: 0-for-4
Austin Brice, SP: 6 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
Jupiter lost their 71st game of the season to Bradenton in front of 777 spectators at McKechnie Field. Blake Barber, Matt Juengel, and Justin Bohn all had two hits but the Hammerheads struggled to take advantage of opportunities. 2012 3rd Round pick Avery Romero went 0-for-4, he seems to have cooled down in the last couple weeks.
Low Class-A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
No game scheduled.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs W 5-3 vs. Staten Island Yankees
Ryan Cranmer, DH: 1-for-2, BB, HR (2), RBI
K.J. Woods, LF: 1-for-3, 2 RBI
Jorgan Cavanerio, SP: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Juancito Martinez, RP: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, SV (4)
Jorgan Cavanerio was fantastic in seven innings of work as Batavia got one game closer to .500 on Wednesday afternoon. Ryan Cranmer, the Marlins 2014 24th Round pick, is hitting .333/.423/.500 in his first seven games for Batavia. However, this game was really all about Cavanerio. Quickly developing a reputation for being a streaky pitcher, Jorgan Cavanerio has not allowed an earned run in his last two starts, both of which were seven innings. Cavanerio is a projectable Venezuelan teenager who Marlins fans should keep tabs on as he finishes another successful minor league season.
Rookie: GCL Marlins W 6-1 @ GCL Mets
Brian Schales, 3B: 2-for-4, BB, RBI
Austen Smith, 1B: 2-for-4, HR (5), 3 RBI
Ayron Adames, SP: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
Ayron Adames pitched a dominant five innings, striking out eight and only allowing one run, to lead the Marlins over the Mets at St. Lucie Sports Complex on Wednesday. In Adames' most complete start of his season, he worked fast and struck out twice as many batters as he had in any previous starts. Adames, a 6'0'' Dominican right-handed pitcher, had success in the Dominican Summer League last season and he's been just as impressive in the GCL in 2014. Austen Smith added two hits, one of them being his fifth home run. Smith has hit four home runs in his last ten games.
