Looking to remain competitive, the Miami Marlins cannot put together a winning streak. After taking the first game of the series, the Marlins fell to the Los Angeles Angels 8-3 on Tuesday night.
Nathan Eovaldi struggled from the start, allowing a Howie Kendrick RBI single in the bottom of the first which gave the Angels a one run edge.
Eovaldi worked around early base runners until the fourth, when the Angels crossed the plate five times. Efren Navarro drove in the first run of the frame with an RBI single, and Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols all had RBI hits and Los Angeles took a six run lead.
In three and a third innings, Eovaldi allowed all six runs while walking one and striking out four.
Sam Dyson and Mike Dunn combined to pitch the final four and two third innings, with Dyson allowing a pair of runs.
Matt Shoemaker shut down Miami's offense through seven shutout innings, and the Marlins didn't get their first run until the ninth. A Jarrod Saltalamacchia RBI double and Ed Lucas RBI single drove in Miami's lone two runs on the night.
Miami will have a chance to win the series with a victory on Wednesday night.
