The Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Angels get to tangle for the first time in the 2014 season, and it affords Marlins fans a chance to see Mike Trout play against their favorite team for the first time in his career. Likewise, it's a chance for Giancarlo Stanton to take on the Angels for the first time in his career. It will be Jarred Cosart versus former Marlin Wade LeBlanc in the first of a three-game series.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Angels | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3.55 | 3.89 | 4.14 | Cosart | LeBlanc | 7.36 | 7.64 | 5.39 |
Cosart has had decent numbers in his first three starts in Miami. He has struck out eight batters while walking five in 18 1/3 innings, and he has not allowed a home run. That has led to a 2.45 ERA and 3.08 FIP. Those things cannot continue without better strikeout rates, but with Cosart, the question will always be whether he can find that kind of stuff. He is getting the ball in the strike zone, having thrown pitches in there 56 percent of the time.
Wade LeBlanc is not good. Surprise!
Lineup
Reed Johnson is the Marlins' DH. That doesn't sound pleasant.
Marcell Ozuna has been moved to the cleanup spot. This is an agreeable move versus the lefty. Yay!
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Angels 4-3
