The Miami Marlins are confident in their ability to make it to the postseason, but the squad can't capitalize when teams ahead of them fall. All three teams in front of the Marlins in the Wild Card standings lost on Sunday, but Miami fell to the Rockies 7-4.

Colorado got off to a quick start against Brad Hand, scoring three times in the bottom of the first. Nolan Arenado hit a two-run home run to left field, and Michael McKenry followed with a solo homer of his own.

Miami was able to get a pair back in the top of the second against Christian Bergman. Adeiny Hechavarria tripled with one out and scored on a Jeff Mathis RBI double, and Mathis came around to score on a Christian Yelich RBI single which made it a 3-2 contest.

The Rockies loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth, and Brad Hand's day ended when he issued a one out walk to McKenry. In four and a third innings, Hand allowed four runs while walking and striking out three.

Brad Penny relieved him and recorded a pair of outs to end the frame.

A Charlie Blackmon RBI double against Penny in the sixth added a run to Colorado's lead, but the Marlins added a pair in the top of the seventh. A Jeff Baker RBI double and Giancarlo Stanton RBI single against Bergman made it a 5-4 game, but the Rockies got the two back on a DJ LeMahieu double in the bottom of the seventh.

Penny tossed two a third innings in relief, and Mike Dunn and A.J. Ramos were both solid out of the bullpen.

The Marlins head to Los Angeles to begin a three game set with the Angels on Monday night.
