It took ten innings for the Marlins to top the Texas Rangers 4-3 on Tuesday night, but Miami couldn't extend its winning streak to four games after dropping the second game of the two game set 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
Nathan Eovaldi quickly recorded a pair of outs before the Rangers put together a three run rally in the first. An RBI double off the bat of J.P. Arencibia following singles by Alex Rios and Adrian Beltre gave Texas their first run, and Beltre scored on an Adeiny Hechavarria error to extend the lead to two. Leonys Martin's subsequent single to right field to made it a 3-0 contest.
Eovaldi's struggles continued in the second, when following a Rougned Odor single and Elvis Andrus double, Rios hit a shallow ball to right field that Giancarlo Stanton couldn't get to, allowing both Odor and Andrus to score on the play.
Eovaldi lasted just five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) while walking one and striking out four.
Nick Martinez pitched well for the Rangers, but the Marlins put a pair of runs on the board against him in the fourth. Garrett Jones singled with one out and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Marcell Ozuna. Ozuna advanced to third on an Adeiny Hechavarria ground ball and scored on a Martinez wild pitch.
Brad Hand, Chris Hatcher, A.J. Ramos and Mike Dunn all kept the Marlins in the game, but despite solo home runs off the bats of Ozuna and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Neftali Feliz closed the game and ended Miami's late rally.
