The Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks begin a four-games series at Marlins Park, with the Fish looking to come away with wins against one of the few teams in the National League with essentially nothing to play for. Miami has something to play for indeed, so it is critical it finds its mark here against the D'backs. It will Brad Penny facing his former team that drafted him and their starter, Chase Anderson.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Diamondbacks | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
--- | 6.93 | 1.80 | Penny | Anderson | 3.06 | 4.41 | 4.94 |
Brad Penny walked four batters with only three strikeouts and somehow only gave up a run for his Major League win in some time. Chase Anderson has been pitching all year and defying his home run odds. Ultimately, we have a matchup of two pitchers who are not particularly good. Edge goes to Anderson, who can actually strike out batters, especially given the home run issue will be deadened a bit in Marlins Park.
Lineup
Jordany Valdespin gets the night off as Donovan Solano takes over at second base. On an unrelated topic, Jordany Valdespin committed two errors last night in the team's loss against the St. Louis Cardinals. Coincidence? Almost assuredly not.
Notes
- Can Miami score some runs? This isn't the best lineup of guys being sent out there by Arizona, and D'backs have kind of already gone in the tank, so the team just needs runs versus Anderson. This is especially true since Penny is probably the worst of the Marlins' five starters at the moment.
- Might this be Penny's last Marlins start? Henderson Alvarez is slated to go on Saturday night, so someone will be leaving the rotation shortly. Will it be Penny or Brad Hand?
Bold Prediction: D'backs def. Marlins 5-3
