Miami Marlins vs. Cincinnati Reds: Game 117 Thread and Ichthyomancy

The Miami Marlins are going for the sweep versus the Cincinnati Reds, but they'll have to do it against Johnny Cueto. The Fish will counter with Brad Hand.

Bust out the brooms, because the Miami Marlins are going for the sweep!

The Marlins will look to sweep the Cincinnati Reds in today's finale, but it will be a tough challenge. The renewed effort of Brad Hand will go up against the consistently strong Johnny Cueto in today's contest.

Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA FIP ERA MARLINS REDS ERA FIP PROJ ERA
4.41 3.87 4.03 Hand Cueto 2.04 3.06 3.00

You can't argue with the results so far with Brad Hand. His last few starts have been good enough, and his overall 3.83 ERA and 3.38 FIP as a starter have been good enough to keep him in the rotation. The problem is that most of that has come with preventing home runs and not increasing his strikeouts or decreasing his walks, both of which are near his career levels. The good news is that his ground ball rate has climbed to 46 percent, which is a huge change from his days in 2011.

Johnny Cueto is really good at baseball, you guys.

Lineup

Today's Lineups

MIAMI MARLINS CINCINNATI REDS
Christian Yelich - LF Kristopher Negron - 2B
Donovan Solano - 2B Jay Bruce - RF
Giancarlo Stanton - RF Todd Frazier - 1B
Casey McGehee - 3B Devin Mesoraco - C
Garrett Jones - 1B Ryan Ludwick - LF
Marcell Ozuna - CF Chris Heisey - CF
Adeiny Hechavarria - SS Ramon Santiago - 3B
Jeff Mathis - C Zack Cozart - SS
Brad Hand - LHP Johnny Cueto - RHP

I am disappointed that we acquired an interesting player in Enrique Hernandez, and yet we still start the hapless Donovan Solano instead. This is not even a platoon question, because Cueto is a righty. The rest of the lineup is as expected for the day game after a night contest.

Bold Prediction: Reds def. Marlins 4-1
