The Miami Marlins get to watch the debut of Jarred Cosart, their latest acquisition in the multi-player trade deadline deal with the Houston Astros. The Fish send out Cosart against Cincinnati Reds starter Mat Latos in the second of a four-game series versus the Reds.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | REDS | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |

4.22 | 4.02 | 4.41 | Cosart | Latos | 3.31 | 3.40 | 3.35 |
I for one am excited to see what Cosart has in store for us. The Fish acquired him to be a top name on their roster, but Miami has to be concerned about the warts in his game, along with the fact that Marlins Park only accentuates what he does best rather than make up for his deficiencies. Still, Cosart moves from the loaded American League to the easier National League, so there's that.
Latos has only made eight starts this year since returning from an early-season injury. He also isn't looking like the Mat Latos of strikeouts old. That's good news for a struggling Miami offense.
Lineup
No debut of the other newest Marlin, Enrique Hernandez, who will be on the bench against the righty Latos. Jordany Valdespin, who has taken the majority of reps at second base the last few weeks, will take up the keystone again.
Notes
- Dan Jennings was demoted to make room for Hernandez and Cosart, but then he came right back thanks to the injury to Henderson Alvarez. More on that story here.
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Reds 5-4
