Miami Marlins Minor League Report: July 6

Avery Romero keeps hitting, Jupiter deals with rain, and the Suns lose in extras.

Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs L 2-5 @ Memphis Red Birds

The Zephyrs dropped Sunday night's game 5-2 to the Memphis Red Birds. Alex Sanabia pitched poorly allowing three earned runs in only four innings of work. The offense could not get much going, only bringing home two runs on seven hits. Third basemen Zach Cox's struggles continued as he went without a hit for a second straight game; he's batting .194 in his last ten games. Recently acquired relief pitcher Donnie Joseph pitched a scoreless 8th inning.

Double A: Jacksonville Suns L 3-5 @ Chattanooga Lookouts

Austin Barnes, C: 1-3, 1R, 1 2B, 1 BB

Issac Galloway, CF: 1-4, 2 R, 1 3B

Robert Morey, SP: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R,1 SO, 3 BB

After staging a 9th inning comeback to force extra innings the Suns fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts 5-3. Down 3-1 going into the bottom of the 9th, Austin Barnes scored on an error, and a Terrence Dayleg single scored Joe Benson to send the game into the 10th. In the top of the 10th inning the Lookouts would regain the lead by scoring two runs off of reliever Jheyson Manzueta. The Suns could not muster anything in the bottom of the 10th giving Chattanooga the victory.

Advanced Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads @ St. Lucie Mets, Postponed

Low Class A: Greensboro Grosshoppers W 9-6 vs. West Virginia Power

Avery Romero, 2B: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB

Carlos Lopez, CF: 2-3,  1 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 RBI

Jarlin Garcia, SP: 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 SO, 1 BB

The Greensboro Grasshoppers continued their winning ways with a 9-6 win over the West Virginia Power. However, starting pitcher Jarlin Garcia turned in another subpar start raising his season ERA to 5.38. On the other hand, Avery Romero continues to hit well, contributing two hits and a walk. After winning the first half title in the North division of the South Atlantic League, the Grasshoppers find themselves 13-5 in the second half and a half game out of first.

Short Season Class A: Batavia Muckdogs W 5-3  @ Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Gabriel Castellanos, SP: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 SO, 5 BB

Gabriel Castellanos turned in another good start leading the Batavia Muckdogs to a 5-3 victory. Castellanos lowered his season ERA to 2.82 with the solid outing. After cooling off for a bit, 2014 draftee Brian Anderson got back into the swing of things with a pair of singles. With the win Batavia moves to 15-8 bringing them within a half game of the first place State College Spikes.
