MLB Scores: St. Louis Cardinals 3, Miami Marlins 2

The Miami Marlins fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Friday night. Nathan Eovaldi turned in a quality start, and the Marlins rallied in the ninth before Casey McGehee grounded into a game ending double play.

The Miami Marlins fell just short of a fourth of July miracle.

After struggling with runners in scoring position all evening, the Marlins loaded the bases with no outs against Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal before Casey McGehee grounded into a game-ending double play, sending the Cardinals home with a 3-2 victory.

Marcell Ozuna and Donovan Solano both singled to open the frame, and Reed Johsnon was hit by a pitch before Christian Yelich drove in a run with a single that was challenged and Giancarlo Stanton walked to get the Marlins on the board.

Nathan Eovaldi turned in a quality start, but was plagued by a three run sixth inning.

Matt Carpenter doubled to open the inning and scored on a wild pitch, and Yadier Molina and Oscar Taveras each added RBI doubles to give the Cardinals a three run lead.

Eovaldi lasted six innings, yielding three runs while walking and striking out a pair.

St. Louis starter Lance Lynn didn't allow a run in sixth and two third innings, and the Marlins were just 2-10 with runners in scoring position.

Dan Jennings and Sam Dyson each pitched an inning of scoreless relief for the Marlins.
