The Miami Marlins got off to a hot start in their attempt to sweep the Houston Astros, and the lead eventually held up under the efforts of Jacob Turner and the bullpen. The Fish jumped out ahead early with three runs in the first inning. Christian Yelich singled and scored on a Jordany Valdespin triple. Casey McGehee drove home Valdespin on a sacrifice fly, then Garrett Jones followed that up with a towering home run to deep right field to give the Fish an early 3-0 lead.
The lead was immediately cut to 3-1 by Jose Altuve, who led off the bottom of the first with a home run of his own, but Jacob Turner eventually held up the game. Turner went 5 2/3 innings and only gave up that homer, yielding a single run while striking out four and walking two. He ran into a few hairy situations here and there, but it was overall a successful second start back in the rotation.
The Fish tacked on a bit when Marcell Ozuna also went deep in the sixth inning. Meanwhile, the Marlins' pen came out and impressed. The Fish bridged the gap to Steve Cishek with Dan Jennings, Chris Hatcher, and Bryan Morris, who threw a hitless performance while striking out three. Cishek tacked on two more strikeouts, but did give up a home run to Jonathan Singleton. Nevertheless, Cishek picked up the save and the Marlins pulled off the sweep.
