Miami Marlins Minor League Report: July 20th

Austin Brice struggles, Batavia drops a pair, and Colin Moran keeps hitting.

The Zephyrs were defeated by Omaha Sunday night 9-2. Starting pitcher Adam Conley struggled, giving up six runs without making it out of the 5th inning. The offense also struggled, only mustering 5 hits. Jake Marisnick stole two bases making him 23 for 28 on stolen bases, for the season.

Double A:  Jacksonville Suns W 5-2 vs. Pensacola Blue Wahoos

The Suns beat Pensacola 5-2 behind a solid outing from prospect Jose Urena. Austin Barnes reached base all four times he batted, including a pair of solo homers. The win moves Jacksonville to 54-45.

The Hammerheads got whacked by the Lakeland Flying Tigers 10-5. They were doomed from the start as Lakeland scored 8 runs in the first inning off of starter Austin Brice. The poor outing raised Brice's ERA to 4.28. Avery Romero hit two singles, raising his average to .364 since being called up from Greensboro. Colin Moran had three more singles, showcasing that hit tool the Marlins love.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers continued their impressive season defeating Hickory 6-5 and moving to 30 games above .500. Even with a few of their best performers being called up the offense continues to thrive, as they banged out 13 hits in the victory. However, second baseman Brian Anderson continues to struggle since being called up from Batavia to replace Avery Romero.

Batavia lost both games of a doubleheader to Connecticut on Sunday. Ben Holmes (formerly Ben Wetzler) pitched well in a brief stint in game one, though most of his season has been a struggle. His ERA still sits at 5.91.  The bats could not get going in game two as Batavia was shutout and only registered four hits, two from Iramis Olivencia.
