The Miami Marlins have started the second half of the season the same way they ended the first half. Miami dropped its sixth straight after falling to San Francisco 5-3 on Saturday night.
Miami was able to take a quick lead against Tim Hudson in the bottom of the first, as a Casey McGehee RBI single with two outs allowed Christian Yelich to score.
Pablo Sandoval doubled to open the second against Henderson Alvarez, and Brandon Belt doubled to right field to tie the game. Alvarez retired Brandon Crawford but a throwing error by Jarrod Saltalamacchia gave the Giants a one run edge.
Alvarez had to exit the game after being hit by a Joe Panik ground ball, and was replaced by Sam Dyson. Alvarez was diagnosed with a shin contusion and is listed as day to day.
Dyson walked Hudson with the bases loaded and allowed a two-RBI single off the bat of Hunter Pence in the fourth to give the Giants a 5-1 lead.
Hudson was dominant after allowing the first inning run, lasting seven and a third innings while striking out three.
Giancarlo Stanton opened the bottom of the ninth with his second home run in as many nights, and after Santiago Casilla entered the game, Jarrod Saltamacchia added an RBI single before Adeiny Hechavarria flew out to end the game.
Chris Hatcher, Dan Jennings, and A.J. Ramos all pitched well in relief for the Marlins, who will look to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
