After dropping the first two games of the series, the Miami Marlins topped the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Chicago got on the board first in the bottom of the sixth against Marlins starter Henderson Alvarez. Starlin Castro doubled with one out, and Luis Valbuena reached on Garrett Jones' throwing error that led to Alvarez's injury and eventual departure. Nate Schierholtz tripled to right field, allowing both Castro and Valbuena to score and giving Chicago a 2-0 edge.

Alvarez, before injuring his hip, went five and a third innings, yielding two runs and striking out five.

After Jake Arrieta kept the Marlins off the board through six innings, Miami tied the game in the seventh against Brian Schlitter. Casey McGehee walked to open the frame, and Marcell Ozuna, J.T. Realmuto, and Adeiny Hechavarria all singled with one out to tie the game at two.

A.J. Ramos opened the eighth by hitting Darwin Barney, and after the Cubs loaded the bases, Mike Dunn walked Valbuena to make it a 3-2 contest.

Jones hit a sacrifice fly against Pedro Strop to tie the game in the eighth, and the Marlins took their first lead of the afternoon on a wild pitch that allowed McGehee to score.

Bryan Morris was solid in relief, and Steve Cishek pitched a scoreless ninth for the Marlins.
