After leaving an earlier start against the Washington Nationals with elbow pain, Miami Marlins starter Henderson Alvarez left his Sunday afternoon start against the Chicago Cubs with left hip pain.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Luis Valbuena hit a ground ball to first base, and Alvarez headed to the bag to field a throw from Jones. On a play that was eventually ruled an error, Jones' throw sailed high, causing Alvarez to jump into the air.
The injury likely occurred after Alvarez landed awkwardly and off balance. Manager Mike Redmond was quick to pull Alvarez, who was replaced by Dan Jennings.
Miami is hopeful the injury won't require a stint on the disabled list after the team lost Jose Fernandez to Tommy John surgery.
After exiting the start against the Nationals, Alvarez was able to make his next scheduled start.
