A ninth inning rally was the extent of the Marlins' offense in a 5-3 loss to the Cubs on Friday, and the Miami Marlins will look to bounce back in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon. Randy Wolf will be on the mound for the Marlins.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Cubs | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.23 | 1.76 | 3.38 | Wolf | Samardzija | 2.54 | 3.02 | 3.53 |
Randy Wolf is looking to remain in the rotation, and will look to turn in his second consecutive quality start against the Cubs. In his last start against the Rays, Wolf went six innings and gave up one run while walking one and striking out seven.
Jeff Samardzija, who the Marlins were reportedly interested in for a bit, went just three innings and gave up eight runs to the Brewers in his last start.
Lineups
Miami's offense struggled until the ninth inning on Friday, and things won't get much easier with Jeff Samardzija on the mound on Saturday. Donovan Solano gets the start at second base for the Marlins and Jeff Mathis gets the start behind the plate.
Mike Olt will start at third base for the Cubs, former Marlin Justin Ruggiano will be in right field, and Darwin Barney will be at second base.
Notes
-Can Miami add late? The Marlins' inability to score after the ninth inning cost them the game on Friday afternoon.
-How will Wolf perform? Wolf is looking to become consistent, and a second consecutive quality start would prove that he deserves to remain in the starting rotation.
Bold Predictions: Cubs def. Marlins 7-2
