A night after Andrew Heaney struggled in his second major league start, Henderson Alvarez pitched well in a 3-2 victory over the Phillies on Wednesday night.
Miami got off to a quick start offensively against A.J. Burnett in the top of the fourth. Giancarlo Stanton and Casey McGehee both singled, and Marcell Ozuna followed with an RBI double that gave the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Jarrod Saltalamacchia followed with a two RBI double of his own to push the Marlins' lead to three.
A Chase Utley fifth inning sacrifice fly got Philadelphia on the board against Alvarez, and a Domonic Brown sixth inning RBI single made it a one run game.
In six and two third innings, Alvarez yielded two runs (one earned) while walking a pair and striking out three.
Kevin Gregg and Mike Dunn were solid out of Miami's bullpen and Steve Cishek pitched a scoreless ninth for the Marlins.\
