Coming off of Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Miami Marlins will look to bounce back in game three of the four game series on Wednesday night. Henderson Alvarez will be on the mound for the Marlins.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Phillies | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3.70 | 3.02 | 2.39 | Alvarez | Burnett | 3.89 | 4.24 | 4.12 |
Alvarez has been Miami's most consistent starter since Jose Fernandez went down, and will look to continue that trend on Wednesday night. In his last start against the Mets, Alvarez went six and a third scoreless innings while striking out five.
Alvarez pitched seven shutout innings in a May start against Philadelphia.
A.J. Burnett pitched a complete game his last time out against the Cardinals, during which he gave up one run and struck out three. Burnett pitched five innings and yielded three runs in a late May start against the Marlins.
Lineups
Ed Lucas remains at shortstop for the Marlins, who will use the same offense that couldn't complete a late rally on Tuesday. Miami will look to score early against Burnett while Alvarez will look to shut down a Phillies lineup that postd seven runs last night.
Notes
-Will Alvarez go deep? Andrew Heaney's second major league start wasn't extended, and a longer outing from Alvarez would benefit the bullpen.
-Can the Marlins score early? Miami has been inconsistent scoring early and often as they did to begin the year.
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Phillies 8-0
