After being swept by the Atlanta Braves over the weekend, the Miami Marlins begin a two game home series with the Tampa Bay Rays. Randy Wolf will be on the mound for the Marlins.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | RAYS | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.33 | 2.06 | 4.50 | Wolf | Cobb | 2.93 | 3.46 | 3.39 |
Miami is giving Randy Wolf another start after he struggled in his first outing as a Marlin. Wolf gave up nine hits and six runs in five innings against Milwaukee. Following a rainout in Washington, Wolf had extra time between starts, and the Marlins are hopeful he can become a consistent replacement for Jose Fernandez.
Should Wolf struggle, the Marlins may consider other starting options.
In his last start against the Blue Jays, Cobb struggled in five innings, yielding six runs while walking one and striking out seven.
Lineups
Miami's offense struggled at times against a quality Atlanta pitching staff, and will have to create scoring opportunities against the Rays. Ed Lucas gets the start at second base for the Marlins, and Marcell Ozuna and Adeiny Hechavarria move into the six and seven spots, respectively.
Jeff Mathis gets the start behind the plate.
Notes
-How will Miami perform in interleague play? Leaving the NL East, the Marlins will look to remain competitive with the division-leading Braves.
-Will Wolf pitch well? The Marlins may not wait long before exploring new replacement options for Fernandez.
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Rays 11-4
