The Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals battled in today's Memorial Day afternoon contest. The Marlins' offense was up to task, because they jumped on top of the Nats early. The Fish scored the first run when GIancarlo Stanton doubled with two outs and Casey McGehee singled home the run. Stanton came back in the third inning, when Tanner Roark plunked Derek Dietrich and led to Stanton blasted a two-run homer to take a 3-0 lead.
Nathan Eovaldi was game for the afternoon scuffle, as he struck out five batters with just one walk (and two hit-by-pitches) during the start and looked like he was cruising through most of the contest. Through five innings, he had allowed just one hit, but he ran into trouble in the sixth inning, when Jayson Werth singled and Adam LaRoche followed with a two-run home run to put up a 3-2 game.
But the Marlins' pen delivered in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Mike Dunn, A.J. Ramos, and Steve CIshek cruised through surprisingly clean innings to lead to the close 3-2 victory.
