After rallying late for a walkoff win over the Phillies on Thursday afternoon, the Miami Marlins fell to the Milwaukee Brewers 9-5 in the first game of the three game set on Friday night.
Scooter Gennett drove in Jean Segura with a sacrifice fly against Tom Koehler in the first, but Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo home run to right center field against Marco Estrada in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at one.
Mark Reynolds followed a Carlos Gomez fourth inning double with a two-run home run to give the Brewers a lead that would not be lost. Milwaukee scored four times in the fifth, punctuated by Reynolds' second home run of the night, against Koehler, who struggled with his location.
In five innings, Koehler gave up nine hits and and seven runs while strking out three.
Garrett Jones hit a solo home run against Estrada in the bottom of the fifth, and Stanton and Jones both hit their second solo home runs of the night in a three run bottom of the seventh against Estradsa.
With the roof open, the ball was jumping out of Marlins Park, and despite a late rally, the Marlins couldn't make a late inning comeback.
Brad Hand gave up a pair of runs in two innings of relief, but Chris Hatcher added two innings of scoreless relief after he was promoted on Thursday.
Brandon Kintzler, Will Smith, and Rob Wooten kept the Marlins off the board for Milwaukee.
