After scoring twice in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, the Miami Marlins will look to take the third game of the series on Saturday evening. Tom Koehler will be on the mound for the Marlins.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | GIANTS | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.65 | 4.45 | 2.57 | Koehler | Lincecum | 4.78 | 4.10 | 3.97 |
On the current 11 game road trip, during which Jose Fernandez was notably lost to Tommy John surgery, the starting pitching has struggled, and one of Miami's starting pitchers has yet to step up. Tom Koehler has pitched well as the Marlins' fifth starter, but is coming his shortest outing of the year.
Against the Dodgers in three and two third innings, Koehler gave up four runs while walking five and only earning one strikeout.
Tim Lincecum, on the contrary, is coming off of his longest outing of a year, a seven and two third innings performance against Braves during which he only yielded two hits and struck out 11.
Lineups
Miami scored seven times on Friday, and will look to support Koehler on Saturday. Marcell Ozuna returns to center field, giving Reed Johnson's hot bat a day off. Scoring runs against Lincecum will not be easy, especially after he is coming off of his best outing of the year.
Notes
-Can Miami win back to back contests? After a 8-1 homestand, winning on the current 11 game roadtrip has been a struggle for the Marlins.
-Will Koehler go deep into the game? Miami's bullpen has been taxed frequently on the trip, and a quality start would give a few guys necessary time off.
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Giants 3-0
