The Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres have had a weird series, between the late-night thriller on Thursday and the drumming delivered by San Diego on Friday. Tonight, the series continues with a "Medium-Late" Night with the Fish, with an earlier-than-usual Saturday start. Nathan Eovaldi will take on the Padres in this latest start.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | PADRES | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3.84 | 2.48 | 2.78 | Eovaldi | Stults | 5.40 | 5.54 | 4.12 |
The Marlins had their ace Jose Fernandez demolished by the Padres last night, but they hope to have better luck with Nathan Eovaldi on the mound. Captain EO will look to continue his winning ways against Eric Stults and the Padres' anemic offense (which did not look anemic with ten runs last night). Eovaldi will pound the strike zone, while Stults is looking to get more strikes and stop giving up so many homers (seven in 33 1/3 innings).
Lineup
Christian Yelich gets the day off for the Marlins, with Reed Johnson surprisingly slotted in the leadoff spot. Ed Lucas is making the start at second base, and Jeff Baker is at first against Stults.
Miami scored just one run on Friday night, but will look to support Nathan Eovaldi on Tuesday.
Notes
- Can Miami recover from the ugly previous start? The Fish couldn't score and the pitching staff struggled, so Eovaldi will have to do a better job with worse stuff. Here's hoping for the best.
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Padres 3-1
