Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets: Game 23 Thread and Ichthyomancy

The Miami Marlins visit the New York Mets for the first three-game set between the two teams in 2014. Tonight, Henderson Alvarez takes the bump again facing off against hot young upstart Zack Wheeler.

The Miami Marlins come to New York and visit the New York Mets for the first time in 2014, as the two teams square off in a three-game set in Citi Field. Tonight, Henderson Alvarez will look to dazzle the Mets like he did the Seattle Mariners just a week ago in his first impressive showing of the season. He will battle hot young prospect Zack Wheeler.

Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA FIP ERA MARLINS Mets ERA FIP PROJ ERA
3.96 3.30 2.66 Alvarez Wheeler 4.63 3.39 3.58

Alvarez spun a complete-game, two-hit shutout against the Mariners last week, and he's looking to take another bad offense to task in the New York Mets. Meanwhile, Wheeler is trying to get back on track after his ERA ballooned despite good strikeout numbers.

Lineup

Today's Lineups

MIAMI MARLINS NEW YORK METS
Christian Yelich - LF Eric Young Jr. - LF
Marcell Ozuna - CF Curtis Granderson - RF
Giancarlo Stanton - RF David Wright - 3B
Casey McGehee - 3B Daniel Murphy - 2B
Jarrod Saltalamacchia - C Chris Young - CF
Garrett Jones - 1B Lucas Duda - 1B
Derek Dietrich - 2B Travis d'Arnaud - C
Adeiny Hechavarria - SS Ruben Tejada - SS
Henderson Alvarez - RHP Zack Wheeler - RHP

Derek Dietrich is in the lineup, and Garrett Jones has been moved down to sixth in the order. Casey McGehee batting cleanup ahead of free agent pickup Jarrod Saltalamacchia is a bit puzzling, but is mostly splitting hairs. This is a decent Marlins lineup!
