After scoring early in the game, the Hammerheads lost their lead when Chipper Smith allowed a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh. They quickly regained the lead with a Cameron Flynn sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. Despite his poor outing, Smith earned the win.

Greensboro got off to a strong start, scoring four runs in the top of the second. This lead evaporated by the third inning, but the Grasshoppers fought back for another run to regain the lead. The real damage came later, when the Braves hit a bases-clearing double and a three-run homer to put them ahead 13-6.
