Get the brooms out, because the Miami Marlins are looking for a sweep!
The Fish are looking to pull off the sweep over the Seattle Mariners, with Kevin Slowey taking the mound for the first time in the starting role for the Marlins. Opposite him will be Brandon Maurer, who is a recent Triple-A call-up to replace, well, yet another Triple-A call-up for the Mariners.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | MARINERS | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |

Kevin Slowey was meant to be one of the team's two potential long-relief options after Brad Hand. But when Jacob Turner went on the DL with a shoulder strain and Hand failed to impress in two starts, Slowey was inserted into the rotation this time around. Chances are this will be the only time the Marlins will need Slowey, as they are prepared to run with a four-man rotation for the next week-plus while they await the return of Turner.
Maurer pitched 90 innings and started 14 games last season for the Mariners, but he did not put up good numbers (6.30 ERA, 4.90 FIP). He was not slated to be in the rotation this year, but injuries to various starters for the Mariners, including replacements like Blake Beavan, put him in there.
Lineup
Garrett Jones is back in the lineup for the Marlins, and Jeff Mathis will catch Kevin Slowey. After a solid offensive night on Saturday, Adeiny Hechavarria moves into the six spot, and Donovan Solano makes his second consecutive start at second base.
Notes
- I will not be around for today's game, as I will be at work all day. Sorry gang!
