Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
L 3-6 @ Iowa Cubs
Jake Marisnick, CF: 0-for-4, 2 SO
Josh Rodriguez, 2B: 2-for-4, R, 2B
Elih Villanueva, SP: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO, HR
Jake Marisnick's struggles continued in another disappointing performance from the Marlins top hitting prospect. With just three walks in 56 plate appearances, Marisnick has shown little discipline. The result is a .170/.250/.245 line through the first two weeks of the season.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
L 4-5 @ Chattanooga Lookouts
Austin Nola, SS: 0-for-4, SO
Angel Sanchez, SP: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO
Chris Reed, the Dodgers' 2011 1st round pick, struck out nine Jacksonville batters in six innings pitched. While the score remained close throughout the game, the Suns struggled to hit all evening. They scored four runs on two hits, thanks to some bad defensive plays and wild pitches.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
W 8-6 @ St. Lucie Mets
Rafael Furcal, 2B: 0-for-4, BB
Austin Barnes, C: 1-for-3, R, 2B, 2 BB
Viosergy Rosa, DH: 2-for-4, 2 R, 2 HR, BB, 2 SO
Jake Esch, SP: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO
The Hammerheads managed to overcome Esch's rough four-run first inning, scoring six runs in the first three innings. Viosergy Rosa's two homer night raised his season line to an outstanding .388/.508/.551. Soon to turn 24, Rosa is well above the average age of most players in the Florida State League.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 2-3 @ Lakewood BlueClaws
Justin Bohn, SS: 3-for-4, 2B, BB, SO
Avery Romero, 2B: 0-for-5
Ryan Newell, SP: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 8 SO
Down 3-0 in the ninth inning, the Grasshoppers mounted an impressive comeback that fell just short. A series of doubles and hit batsmen gave Greensboro a bases-loaded, one out situation, but Carlos Lopez and Avery Romero failed to tie the game up.
