The Miami Marlins are coming off of a wonderful Opening Night start, but the team has to go at it again the following night, as the Fish face the Colorado Rockies in the second of a three-game set. It will be Nathan Eovaldi debuting for the 2014 season versus Brett Anderson.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | ROCKIES | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.09 | --- | --- | Eovaldi | Anderson | --- | --- | 4.32 |
Eovaldi is a potential breakout candidate for the Marlins in 2014, as his elite fastball velocity bodes well for him and can cover some of his other deficiencies decently. Anderson was an emerging elite option as a starter before injuries derailed two of his last three years. His return last season was disappointing, but the Rockies are betting on good news going forward, especially since his ground ball style fitting well in Coors Field. Do not expect a lot of home runs between these two.
Lineup
PROJ WOBA | WOBA | MARLINS | ROCKIES | wOBA | PROJ WOBA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
.328 | --- | Christian Yelich | Drew Stubbs | --- | .317 |
.304 | --- | Jeff Baker | Michael Cuddyer | --- | .361 |
.382 | --- | Giancarlo Stanton | Carlos Gonzalez | --- | .377 |
.309 | --- | Casey McGehee | Troy Tulowitzki | --- | .383 |
.321 | --- | Garrett Jones | Justin Morneau | --- | .347 |
.320 | --- | Jarrod Saltalamacchia | Wilin Rosario | --- | .326 |
.318 | --- | Marcell Ozuna | Nolan Arenado | --- | .329 |
.273 | --- | Adeiny Hechavarria | DJ LeMahieu | --- | .305 |
The Rockies are turning to the lefty Stubbs versus Eovaldi, except that Opening Night starter Charlie Blackmon is also a lefty. Brett Anderson is also a lefty, so the Marlins are throwing out the same lineup they tried last night against Jorge de la Rosa. The odd part about this choice continues to be batting Garrett Jones and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, both of whom are simply awful versus lefties, in front of Marcell Ozuna. I appreciate not overreacting to Ozuna's three-hit game, but he is almost certainly a better hitter than either of those two against left-handed pitching.
Notes
- I won't be at the game in Marlins Park, but I'm hoping for another fun night on the game thread with the team!
- If you did not play Ichthyomancy last night, you should get in on the action tonight! The game is underway, and you could be the next great Ichthy winner! Read the rules here!
Bold Prediction: Marlins def. Rockies 3-2
