2014 MLB key offseason dates

New, comment

With the offseason having officially started on Thursday, here are some dates to watch out for this winter.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Giants' game seven World Series victory officially ended the 2014 season on Wednesday night, and Thursday marked the start of the offseason. Here are some dates to keep in mind this winter.

November 4

Awards season is upon us, and several Marlins have already been linked to different honors. Giancarlo Stanton won the Hank Aaron Award last week, and he and Christian Yelich have been linked to gold gloves. Rawlings Gold Glove Awards recipients will be announced soon, and on November 4, the BBWAA award are announced.

Miami is reportedly interested in adding depth to its roster, and can begin doing so next Tuesday, when MLB free agency officially begins.

November 5/6

Silver Slugger and Defensive Player of The Year award winners are announced on these days.

November 10

The Rookie and Executive of the Year Awards are handed out on November 10.

More significantly, though, the General Manager meetings start here and will end on the 12. Miami is expected to begin negotiations with Stanton at some point in November, and discussions that are continued at the Winter Meetings sometimes start when the General Managers get together.

November 11-13

Manager of the Year and Cy Young Award winners are announced. Marlins Manager Mike Redmond could be a candidate to be the National League's Manager of The Year.

December 2

This is the official deadline for tendering a contract offer to any player that is currently under team control, or for exercising a player option.

December 8-11

The Winter Meetings begin here. Many signings and trades are made, and a Stanton extension will likely be completed or no longer discussed at this point.
