Attendance: 18,503
Hero of the Game: Chris Coghlan (0.138 WPA)
Goat of the Game: Henderson Alvarez (-0.272 WPA)
Play of the Game: Evan Gattis doubled to left field in the fourth inning. Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman scored. (-0.118 WPA)

The Miami Marlins could not recover from a string of poor pitching performances, as Henderson Alvarez struggled in the fourth inning en route to five runs allowed in just four innings of work. The Marlins starter was cruising through three innings, having not allowed a hit. Then the first five batters for the Braves in the fourth reached base, as Alvarez gave up three consecutive doubles leading to the first and second runs of the game. Alvarez gave up all five of his hits along with one of his walks and a wild pitch that led to a scored run, all in that one inning. It ended up being the demise of the start, in which he walked three and struck out two along with the awful performance.

The Marlins on offense fared a similar fate. The team had eight hits, six versus Kris Medlen, but four of the team's hits were singles by Chris Coghlan. The remaining four hits were scattered in the rest of the appearances, as Medlen struck out six and walked just two through his six innings. The Marlins eked out two runs in the sixth on three of the team's four non-Coghlan hits, as Ed Lucas drove in two runners with a double. Outside of that, Miami struggled to put runners on and move them over as they put up a classic 2013 offensive effort.

The FIsh will look for better luck tomorrow when they send Tom Koehler to the mound.
