Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
W 7-3 vs. Reno Aces
Nick Green, 2B: 1-for-4, HR (9), 3 RBI
Sam Dyson, SP: 1-for-2, HR (1), RBI
Sam Dyson, SP: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Sam Dyson helped himself on Monday night, hitting a solo homer and pitching six scoreless innings. Nick Green and Bryan Petersen also both hit long balls in the Zephyr's 7-3 win. New Orleans improves to 58-59 on the season with the victory.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 6-4 vs. Tennessee Smokies
Mark Canha, 1B: 3-for-4, HR (11), RBI
Justin Nicolino, SP: 5.1 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
Arquimedes Caminero, RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Michael Brady, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, SV (20)
Despite a rough start from Justin Nicolino, the Suns bullpen was fantastic and kept the Suns in the game. Arquimedes Caminero, he of the strikeouts per nine innings over 11, struck out three in one inning and Michael Brady recorded his twentieth save of the year. Mark Canha had a huge day at the plate, culminating with a seventh inning homer.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 5-6 vs. Lakeland Flying Tigers
Austin Barnes, C: 1-for-4, BB, HR (4), RBI
Ryan Fisher, 3B: 2-for-3, BB, 3B, 2 RBI
Scott Lyman, SP: 2.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 K
Jupiter could never recover from a a six-run third inning off of Scott Lyman. On the bright side, Austin Barnes homered for the first time in what seems like forever and Ryan Fisher reached base three times and tripled. It's starts like these which prevent Scott Lyman from taking the next step forward in his development.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 3-4 @ Hickory Crawdads
Jesus Solorzano, RF: 2-for-3, BB, SB (29), RBI
Daniel Oliver, SP: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Greensboro lost to Hickory on a walkoff Jordan Akins homer in the ninth. Jesus Solorzano did reach base three times but none of the other Grasshopper hitters seemed to be on top of their stuff. Greensboro falls to 52-60 with the loss.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
No game scheduled.
Rookie: GCL Marlins
L 0-7 @ GCL Mets
Aaron Blanton, SS: 3-for-3, BB
Joel Effertz, SP: 4 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
The Marlins were shutout by the Mets on Monday, but Aaron Blanton got his chance to shine. Blanton, drafted in the ninth-round this June, showed flashes of speed and outstanding defense in JuCo prior to the draft. He is most certainly a name to watch on this GCL roster for the remainder of the season.
