The Miami Marlins had three games in which they stayed fairly close to one the National League's best teams in the Los Angeles Dodgers, but today was not one of those games. The Dodgers blew out the Fish 6-0 thanks to a strong performance by Clayton Kershaw and a weak one from Henderson Alvarez.
The teams were even until the fourth inning, when Alvarez ran into a problem involving Kersahw at the plate. Alvarez picked up two outs after a Yasiel Puig double but he failed to hold back the rest of the Dodgers' bottom of the order. He hit Skip Schumaker and improbably walked Juan Uribe. He then allowed the first run of the game when Kershaw lined a single to the outfield. In classic Jigokusabre anger fashion, the Fish then allowed a Carl Crawford double to put the Dodgers up 3-0.
The next inning did not go much better, as Alvarez allowed two more doubles and threw a wild pitch to contribute to a two-run inning for the Dodgers. The blowout was on.
That was more than enough for Kershaw, who shut down the Fish with six strikeouts and three walks in eight innings. The Marlins hit into three double plays to ruin their innings and only once got a runner to second base. The Fish lose the finale, 6-0.
