The Miami Marlins took another loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and much like the last two games, this game felt fairly close for a while. The Dodgers were only ahead by two runs when they had their three-run fourth inning, and that is how the game stayed for much of the rest of the night as Zack Greinke bested Nathan Eovaldi.

Greinke dominated the Marlins with seven strikeouts and no walks in eight innings. The Fish, however, did at least jump out to the early lead when Giancarlo Stanton smacked a 110 mph line drive out to left field for his 16th home run of the season to get things started in the first inning. That was one of Stanton's two hits on the night, as he picked up a single later in the game. Unfortunately, it was one-third of the team's game total, as Ed Lucas and Adeiny Hechavarria were the only other hitters who got hits. The Fish only had seven baserunners all game.

Meanwhile, Eovaldi did a decent job of limiting baserunners with a solid outing. He went seven innings and gave up three runs with five strikeouts and two walks. The fastball was smoldering hot tonight, hitting the radar gun 100 mph at least three times and averaging 97.9 mph on the night. He was able to pick up ten swings and misses on 105 pitches, which is the sort of rate you want from a fireballing righty.

Things went well enough for Eovaldi, but they did not go well for Miami's defense. The Fish committed three errors and had more miscues than that. The team's worst inning, the fourth, started on an error by Ed Lucas, who threw away a ball in the dirt that Logan Morrison could not handle. This led to a walk, double, and a single by the Dodgers. It also led to a second error in which Eovaldi himself threw a ball away on a pickoff attempt, putting the Fish down 3-1.

That is how it would stay until later in the game, when the Dodgers added an insurance run. But the damage was done and the Marlins were finished, 4-1.
