The Miami Marlins got a poor performance from Tom Koehler in their matchup against Wade Davis and the Kansas City Royals. Neither pitcher was impressive, but Koehler struggled to even get one strikeout. His first whiff came in the fifth inning, but there were not many innings in which Koehler did not have multiple baserunners threatening to score. After six straight outs to start the game, Koehler had four straight innings (he did not complete the sixth) in which he allowed more than one baserunner on board.
In the fourth inning, with two outs on the board, Koehler allowed the first single of the game for him, but that was quickly followed by a triple by Justin Maxwell and a single by Chris Getz to score the first two runs of the night.
The Marlins finally came back after stranding multiple runners. In the top of the sixth, a fortuitous bounce on a Giancarlo Stanton single led to an error by Jarrod Dyson and put Stanton on third. Logan Morrison delivered him with a double, and a few batters later Greg Dobbs did the same to tie the game.
Unfortunately, that was where the buck would stop. Koehler recorded just one out before two singles and a triple led to two more Royals runs. Dan Jennings fared no better, allowing one of the inherited runners to score as well. Tack on an extra run in the seventh inning from a Billy Butler solo homer off of Ryan Webb and the Fish found themselves way behind and with another loss.
