Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
W 4-2 vs. Colorado Spring Sky Sox
Jake Smolinski, LF: 1-for-4, HR (9), 2 RBI
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B: 3-for-3, BB, 2 RBI
Brad Hand, SP: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Brad Hand pitched very well in five scoreless innings to let New Orleans build some confidence with their early two-run lead at Zephyr Field on Tuesday. After the Sky Sox scored two runs off of Chris Hatcher in the top of the ninth, Jake Smolinski hit a two-run walkoff homer to end it. Also of note, Kevin Kouzmanoff reached base four times. Kouzmanoff is hitting .394 in his last nine games.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 6-5 vs. Chattanooga Lookouts
Derek Dietrich, 2B: 1-for-2, 2 BB, RBI
Robert Morey, SP: 5.1 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Arquimedes Caminero, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, H (14)
Michael Brady, RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, SV (17)
Jacksonville scored five runs in the seventh inning to squeak past Chattanooga on Tuesday night. Arquimedes Caminero and Michael Brady were fantastic coming out of the bullpen to protect that lead. Jacksonville improves to 55-49 with the win.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
W 2-1 vs. Brevard County Manatees
Brent Keys, LF: 2-for-4, BB
Ryan Fisher, 3B: 2-for-4, 2B, HR (4), RBI
Jose Urena, SP: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Jose Urena was nothing short of dominant on Tuesday night, pitching six stellar innings in which he only allowed three baserunners. A Ryan FIsher tied the game at one in the eighth, but it was Austin Barnes RBI single in the bottom of the ninth that won it. By the way, Brent Keys is hitting .354 and leading the FSL in batting average and on-base percentage and no other player is even close to him. I wrote an in-depth article on him last May when he was dominating the Sally League.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 1-5 vs. Greenville Drive
Colin Moran, 3B: 3-for-4
Mason Hope, SP: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Mason Hope's nightmare season continued, as once again he failed to turn in a quality outing for the Hoppers. On the bright side for prospect enthusiasts, Colin Moran had three hits. Moran, who is hitting a measly .243/.333/.405 in just 37 plate appearances with Greensboro, appears to starting to get things going. Look for Moran to have a huge seven days starring for the Grasshoppers this week.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
W 7-2 @ Connecticut Tigers
Javier Lopez, SS: 2-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI
Austin Dean, LF: 1-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI
Ryan Newell, SP: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K
Two men, Javier Lopez and Austin Dean, drove in six of Batavia's seven runs on Tuesday. Austin Dean had a two-run double in the fourth. Then the next hitter, Lopez hit a two-run bomb. Ryan Newell looked impressive in five innings, striking out a whopping ten Tigers and only allowing four hits. Batavia improves to an even 20-20 with the victory.
Rookie: GCL Marlins
L 0-6 vs. GCL Nationals
Victor Castro, RF: 1-for-4, 2B
Sam Dyson, SP: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
