The Marlins entered Tuesday's series opener with the Atlanta Braves as winners of six of their last seven games, but proved to be no match for the hitting prowess of Justin Upton and company, eventually losing by a lopsided score of 11-3.
It Was Bound To Happen
When you look at the last ten games of the Miami Marlins' schedule, it's like something out of bizzaro world. Could they really be winners of six of the past seven games? Yes, your eyes truly aren't deceiving you.
With that being said, it was pretty much a given that with the amount of winning the club has been doing of late that one game would be bound to slip away from them and that happened Tuesday night in Atlanta. The Marlins' bullpen, which has been incredibly reliable of late, was what ultimately put the game out of hand, surrendering eight of the Braves' 11 runs.
Justin Upton, one of the thirteen Upton brothers on the Atlanta roster, went 3-for-4 including a triple off starter Tom Koehler. Remember when Justin Upton was hitting everything he saw for a home run in the first month of the season? Well, he has three home runs in the past two months combined. Baseball, you guys.
LoMo Launch
The Fish got off to a hot start in the first inning with Logan Morrison connecting on a two-run homer. I wrote last week about the importance of having Morrison back in the lineup, with a particular emphasis on keeping an eye on his power going forward, as it'll serve as a great indicator of the health of his surgically-repaired knee. His first inning dinger gives him seven extra base hits through the 16 games since his return, which is clearly a very encouraging sign. Mike Redmond will continue to implement scheduled off days for LoMo going forward, which should give him an even better shot to put up the great numbers that we've seen so far.
Looking Ahead
The Marlins play two more against the Upton quadruplets in the ATL before heading to St. Louis for a three-game set with the Cardinals. Here at Fish Stripes, we'll also be keeping a close eye on the Ricky Nolasco trade developments, which are expected to get real serious in the next 24 hours. I mean, not like super serious but there's a good chance that Nolasco won't be a Marlin for much longer.
