The Miami Marlins came out flat on the second night in a row to open up the second half of the season. The Milwaukee Brewers jumped out early in tonight's contest and kept it going against Nathan Eovaldi, who struggled through just four innings.
Eovaldi, on the one hand, at least had the strikeouts on the evening. He induced 11 swings and misses on 83 pitches, which is a fantastic rate for him. His fastball also did not falter, as he was averaging between 96.5 and 97.5 mph on the pitch. The downside was that, unlike in previous starts, batters made hard contact on Eovaldi. The Brewers hit two home runs and got 10 total hits, as Jonathan Lucroy and Rickie Weeks helped to make Eovaldi's day miserable. He gave up all six runs in just four innings of work.
Meanwhile, the Marlins could only get five hits while the Brewers knocked around Eovaldi for ten early. Derek Dietrich managed two hits and Adeiny Hechavarria, in his first game leading off, picked up a single to keep his hot streak going, but other than that, the Fish came out impotent on offense versus Yovani Gallardo. Gallardo dominated the Fish again, striking out five in 6 2/3 innings en route to a win that should boost his trade value.
