Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
No game scheduled.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 6-3 @ Mobile BayBears
Mark Canha, 1B: 1-for-4, BB, SB (4)
Zack Cox, 3B: 1-for-4, 2B, BB, 2 RBI
Anthony DeSclafani, SP: 7 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Arquimedes Caminero, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, SV (2)
Anthony DeSclafani pitched very well in just his second Double-A start. Zack Cox drove in two runs with a double in the seventh to give Arquimedes Caminero a little cushion to close the game out. For DeSclafani, he has continued to approach the Southern League just as he did the FSL. He is keeping the ball in the lower half of the zone and throwing strikes at an extremely high rate to be as effective as he has been.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
W 5-3 vs. Fort Myers Miracle
Brent Keys, LF: 2-for-5, 2B
Austin Nola, SS: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI
Justin Nicolino, SP: 7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Nick Wittgren, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, SV (15)
Justin Nicolino pitched seven dominant innings against Byron Buxton and the Fort Myers Miracle. What's even more impressive about his start is that it was following a rough start he had against the exact same team. The second time around, Nicolino appeared to be in complete control of the game, despite only having two strikeouts. Austin Nola and Brent Keys both had two hits to help power the Jupiter offense in their second straight win.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 4-15 vs. Asheville Tourists
Jesus Solorzano, CF: 3-for-4, HR (9), 2 RBI
Cody Keefer, LF: 2-for-3, 2 2B
Chad James, SP: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
In his first real outing of the 2013 season, Chad James pitched three shutout innings against Tom Murphy and the Tourists. Hopefully, James can turn in a few more starts for Greensboro and then earn a promotion to either Jupiter or Jacksonville, depending on how generous the Marlins are. Jesus Solorzano hit his second home run in the last three days. He definitely seems to be on a hot streak this last week, as he has consistently been turning in multi-hit games.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
W 4-3 @ Jamestown Jammers
Avery Romero, 2B: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI
Felix Castillo, C: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI
Max Garner, SP: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Facing Jackson Lodge, a 6'2'' Australian lefty making his first ever NYPL start, both Avery Romero and Felix Castillo went deep. Max Garner, drafted in the 18th round out of Baylor University, struggled at times, but fought his way through four decent innings pitched. Batavia improves to 4-5 on the season with the victory.
Rookie: GCL Marlins
Game postponed due to rain.
