Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
L 1-4 vs. Oklahoma City Redhawks
Joe Mahoney, 1B: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI
Matt Neil, SP: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K
Oklahoma City pitcher Jarred Cosart dominated the New Orleans lineup, spinning six shutout innings with eight strikeouts. New Orleans falls to 37-38 with the loss.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 2-0 vs. Huntsville Stars
Ryan Fisher, 3B: 1-for-3, HR (4), RBI
Anthony DeSciafani, SP: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
Arquimedes Caminero, RP: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Anthony DeSciafani was on top of his game, outperforming Ariel Pena in six scoreless innings. This was DeSciafani's first start in Double-A, and it couldn't have gone any better. In fact, DeSciafani only needed 71 pitches to go six innings. One could make the argument that he could have been able to turn in a complete game, if he was allowed to keep going. DeSciafani is definitely going to be a pitcher to watch over the next couple of weeks.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 2-5 @ Fort Myers Miracle
Austin Nola, SS: 1-for-2, 2B
Josh Adams, 3B: 1-for-3, HR (4)
Josh Hodges, SP: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Jupiter only managed three hits against the Fort Myers pitching staff on Thursday night. Josh Adams, a 2011 13th round pick did have his fourth homer. As a player who hit 14 homers in Greensboro in 2012, it has been somewhat of a surprise to see a lot of his power disappear in 2013.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 0-7 @ Hickory Crawdads
Jesus Solorzano, CF: 2-for-4
Scott Lyman, SP: 7 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 13 K
Scott Lyman had his second straight 10+ strikeout outing but it wasn't enough, as Greensboro was stifled by Hickory pitcher Luis Parra. Lyman, a 6'4'' 215 lb. right-handed pitcher, has 70 strikeouts in 67.2 innings pitched this season, including 37 strikeouts in his last four starts. Lyman was a 2011 11th Round Draft pick from UC Davis, which makes him one of the older pitchers in the SAL, explaining some of his strikeouts against much younger players. Nonetheless, striking out ten in three of his last four starts is still extremely impressive and intriguing.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
L 2-14 vs. Mahoning Valley Scrappers
Ryan Aper, CF: 1-for-3, BB, RBI
Justin Jackson, SP: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Patrick Merkling, RP: 0 IP, 3 H, 7 ER, 4 BB, 0 K
Batavia got smacked by the Scrappers at home, as twenty-two Mahoning Valley hitters reached base on Thursday night. 2013 6th Round pick Ryan Aper was the only bright spot for Batavia at the plate, but he did have a costly error in center field.
