Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
W 5-4 @ Memphis Redbirds
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B: 2-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI
Bryan Petersen, RF: 2-for-4, RBI
Jared Rogers, SP: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
Chris Hatcher, RP: 1 .0 IP, 1 H, ER, 2 K, SV (20)
Despite a late comeback attempt by Memphis in the ninth inning, Chris Hatcher was able to hold on and lead the Zephyrs to victory. For Hatcher, his twenty saves on the season are first in the Pacific Coast League by an enormous margin.
The Zephyrs managed to reach base twelve total times against Maikel Cleto and the two other Redbirds pitchers. New Orleans improves to 31-32 on the season with the win.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 7-2 @ Birmingham Barons
Jake Marisnick, CF: 4-for-5, 3B, HR (7), 3 RBI
Danny Black, 2B: 1-for-4, 3B, 3 RBI
Nathan Eovaldi, SP: 1.0 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 3 K
Sam Dyson, RP: 5.0 IP, 1 H, BB, 3 K
Arquimedes Caminero, RP: 2.0 IP, H, ER, BB, K
Jacksonville scored eight runs in the top of the eight inning to secure a much needed win over Birmingham in game one of the doubleheader. In his final start with Jacksonville before joining the Marlins, Nate Eovaldi only pitched an inning. Hopefully, that's just because the Marlins want to play things safe with him.
Jake Marisnick had four hits, including a triple and a homer, and Arquimedes Caminero and Sam Dyson both pitched well out of the bullpen to keep the Barons from coming within reach.
L 3-7 (F/7) @ Birmingham Barons (Game two of doubleheader)
Jake Marisnick, CF: 2-for-4, HR (8), 2 RBI
Rob Waite, SP: 1.2 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, BB, K
Jake Marisnick hit his second homer of the day and finished the day with six hits during Double-A Jacksonville's 3-7 loss to Birmingham. As I pointed out on Twitter, it's pretty awesome to watch how Jake Marisnick has put the Suns on his back at times during 2013. He seems to be really maturing into the kind of outfielder will be a star at Marlins Park down the road.
Marisnick was really the lone bright spot for Jacksonville in this ugly second game in which Suns Manager Andy Barkett was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Double-A Jacksonville falls to 32-28 on the season with the loss.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 2-4 @ Brevard County Manatees
Alex Burg, DH: 3-for-4, 2B, BB
Brent Keys, LF: 1-for-3, 2 BB
Austin Nola, SS: 2-for-4, BB, RBI
Jose Urena, SP: 7.0 IP, 5 H, ER, 3 K
Facing the always intimidating Jed Bradley, Jupiter put up an admirable fight, but ultimately couldn't come up with the hits in extra innings to defeat the Manatees. Jose Urena was perhaps even more impressive than Bradley, matching him by pitching seven one-run innings. After a rough start or two, Urena has rebounded by only allowing one run in his last thirteen innings.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
